Why do I need to recalibrate?

Generally, gas detectors are placed in a potentially hazardous area that may be hard on sensor systems. Sensor systems degrade over time and the zero and span levels will vary as the sensors age and are exposed to harsh environments. All sensors have finite lifespans and will have to be replaced periodically. To ensure that the sensors are responding correctly, each sensor needs to be exposed to the gas that it is detecting to insure it is working and is reading accurately. This ensures the safety in the workplace as well as preventing the frustration of false alarm conditions. Many sensors will read zero concentration and appear to be working and then also read zero when exposed to gas if they are no longer working. Therefore, bump testing and calibration are the way to know if the sensor in question is indeed working correctly.
