Chlorine Gas (Cl2)
Chlorine gas is a very commonly used toxic gas that can be found in many applications: most commonly, water, wastewater, swimming pools, and the chemical industry. If you have chlorine gas at your facility, you may be required to have sensors in the area where the Cl2 gas is stored.
Chlorine is widely used in the production of consumer goods such as plastics, solvents for dry cleaning and metal degreasing, textiles, antiseptics and household cleaning products. Work place exposure limits are important to prevent both short and long term exposure to chlorine gas. Leaks of high levels of chlorine gas can lead to coughing and chest pain as well as irritation and respiratory damage. It is a heavy gas and therefore will accumulate at the bottom of poorly ventilated spaces. There is also a risk of explosions if the chlorine gas reacts with flammable materialsmpresent in the environment.
