The Spantech family business has supplied the gas industry since 1977, and Spantech Products has focused on calibration gas since the mid-1990s: making sure the gas, the sensor and the certificate that arrive on your site are the right ones. We are still owned and run by the family that started it.
Who is Spantech Products?
Spantech Products Ltd is a family-owned UK supplier of gas sensors, calibration gas, calibration gas generators and rare gas purifiers, based in Peterlee, County Durham. Founded in 1983 as part of the Spantech family business started in 1977, it makes its own Spancan, Accuspan, GazCal, Spanweld and Spanstop ranges and is a UK distributor of Honeywell Citicel sensors and the only directly authorised UK distributor of ACD gas generators.
A Specialist Business, Kept Deliberately Small
The Spantech business was founded in 1977 by Dr. Chandi Narain and Susan Narain as Spantech International, and remains family owned and run to this day. Spantech Products followed in 1983 and, since the mid-1990s, has specialised in calibration gas. It has become a global network — but the company has never grown into the kind of place where you speak to a call centre.
Our core business covers the full chain of portable calibration: high-pressure gas cylinders and regulators, calibration gas generators, electrochemical and infrared sensors, and rare gas purifiers. We manufacture our own SPANCAN™ range of high-pressure calibration cylinders, supplied with full certificates of analysis, and we are a distributor for Honeywell's CityceL electrochemical sensor range.
Because we both manufacture and distribute, we can give an honest answer about what fits your application. If our own cylinder is not the right call for your detector, alarm level or budget, we will say so.

Spantech International is founded
Dr. Chandi Narain and Susan Narain establish Spantech International to supply equipment for gas installations around the world, specialising in air separation plants. The company is based in central London, first in Museum Street and later in Kingsway.
Spantech Products is formed
Spantech Products Ltd is set up in South Godstone, Surrey, largely to build and promote the TD4 thermal desorber.
The move into calibration gas
Spantech Products turns its focus to calibration gas products, initially largely on an export basis, and grows into the business you see today: gas, sensors, regulators and rare gas purifiers from one source.
The network goes international
Commercial partnerships are established in India, Poland and the USA.
Distributor for Honeywell CityceL
The CityceL electrochemical sensor range — iSeries, 3, 4, 5 and 7 Series, MicroceL and Sensoric — joins the catalogue with UK stock and cross-reference support.
Peterlee, and the second generation
The business now operates from Lister Road, Peterlee, County Durham, led by Sanjay Narain as Chief Executive Officer, with calibration gas generators, purifiers, purge welding products and pipe stoppers alongside the original core range.

What Being Family Owned Actually Changes
Safety before margin
We deal in compressed gas and detection equipment. If a specification looks unsafe or a gas mixture is wrong for the environment, we will not quote it.
Independent recommendations
Our own brands sit next to the brands we distribute. That only works if we are honest about which one is right, and we would rather keep the customer than the order.
Long relationships
Many of our distributors and customers have been with us for decades. Continuity means we already know your detector fleet and your paperwork requirements.
Decisions made in one room
No procurement committee between you and an answer. Special mixtures, non-standard regulators and urgent shipments get decided by the people who own the company.
